Patch Overshirt, Zip-Through Overshirt, Blue Tee + Selvedge Jeans by Jigsaw
Patchwork watch by Avi-8 x John Jarrett - coming soon
Inspired by the uniforms of a welder, carpenter and engineer, Jigsaw's new SS17 capsule collection, Raw State, takes an unexpected look into a world inspired utility. I have been a long-time appreciator of traditional workwear, but the idea of stepping out of my house looking like I've dressed from a particular decade doesn't appeal to me. The Raw State collection backs up that notion – creating a super wearable 21-piece collection fit for the present.
"With the Raw State collection showing predominant signs of inspiration
from traditional manual labour and utility, we wanted to give this a
subtle nod with our own direction"
The restricted palette of the
collection took the lead, so we played upon the off whites, greys, faded
blacks, and the mixture of blues from Jigsaw’s main collection –
heading out to explore the Bloomsbury and Mayfair areas of Central
London.

Our idea was to have a little fun with the utility elements of Raw
State, so we set out to find a selection of complementing locations
which mirrored each garment’s original inspiration; rough textures,
concrete architecture, stark lines, signs of construction and unfinished
details.
True, with London's constant want to build and improve it wasn't too tricky to find signs of construction sites, new builds and disrepair, but this worked perfectly to what we had in mind. Using the city's unfinished environment gives you a deeper connection to the streets which we'd usually consider just to be a means of getting from A to B.
Are you aware of your town's progression? I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we styled this collection.

Love how you styled this with the architecture. Being in NYC, there's always lots of construction and skyscrapers and like you, I've kind of begin to take all of it for granted as some sort of background. Way to go with matching the textures of the beautiful pieces with the scenery - so satisfying!

Cool I like the contrasts!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are amazing! I'm loving the similarities between the outfits and the architecture!

I'm wondering whether I should high tail it to Warrington and pay homage to my northern town roots... but what would I wear? I really like the shoot, guys. Especially the shot of the white jacket layered over the blue, as it's being removed. Lovely fluidity! Kind of wish I was a guy at times so that I could embrace this sort of look and beard grooming.
ReplyDeleteReally impressed by this new collection from Jigsaw - it took me by surprise actually but I love it. Also, good to see Nik on the other side of the camera again...
ReplyDeleteIt's refreshing to see such thought go into a shoot and the end product really reflects that. Great job all round guys. Favourite shot for me has to be the patch overshirt, zip through and blue tee combo - those layers. All you needed was a hard hat and a hi-vis...

Thanks V, always trying to weave it something different.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking a look, Valerie. I want to try and bring a narrative through, and I'm glad you've spotted the links!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comment, Lucie. It's effort to make comments so it's much appreciated. I like that shot too, think the colours work very well. White jacket you say, turns out it works nicely! Who'da thought it.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's special when Nik gets in front of the camera, he's the man. Cheers Arran, it was a fun one to work on, and I enjoyed working out a proper concept for the collection - gives it a worthwhile angle and a point.
ReplyDeleteCheers Jordan. I worked all coming up with a concept that made sense and was fitting for the collection, without it being too "here's my pretending to be an engineer". I think the blues work really nice together too, a straight up navy tee could have spoilt it
ReplyDeleteSomehow missed this post but truly great use of your environment to embody the brand. Each shot is so well in tune with the clothing that everything about it seems so... natural.
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy, we worked really hard on this to create something which was fitting for the collection. Glad you enjoyed it.
