Generally speaking, the first thing that attracts me to
a product is the looks. The rule doesn't always work (the need for a function pays a big role), but most of the
time that's what I'm thinking about; be it clothing, food, cars or
things like DIY tools + cleaning products. But when that nice looking
product is all potatoes and no meat it soon leaves you looking for something
else to replace it.
When
buying glasses I'm attracted the frames first, and lenses are an after
thought. Why is that? Surely the lenses are the most important thing -
after all it's our sight we're talking about here. Well, that's not
something I'd considered until I visited Glints' newly opened studio in the heart of Mayfair, London.
The idea of having high quality
lenses, to go with your well made frames, is something I hadn't (maybe
naively) considered. But after discussing with the Glints team about
consumer buying patterns, brand loyalty and where quality + price plays
its roll, it began to make more sense.
Having spent the afternoon being "schooled" on the art of frame and lens making, and the reasoning behind why Glints decided to aim at the quality-over-trend-driven customer, I was left with the option of trying a pair out for myself.

The frames are handcrafted in Japan, but the lenses are produced much closer to home, in a small town in Wales. But what makes these lenses better than others? That is a tricky question, and one probably best left for the experts - but I can tell you that they have been manufactured by a company that produces lenses for hi-spec camera + surgical equipment.
The Gresham frames have far surpassed any other pair of glasses I've worn previously. Where the lenses in my Ray-Ban glasses have left me feeling slightly off balance + overly-aware of my surroundings, the Glints' correct my eyesight to a comfortable and sharp level.
I was invited to visit the Glints team, and offered a complimentary pair of frames. This isn't a sponsored post and all opinions within this post are honest and impartial.
I rarely wear my glasses, but that's true - I considered frames over the lenses. if I needed to wear them more in the future I'd definitely need to think about the lenses as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat frames! Looks awesome on you..

Nice frames! I have a couple of pairs of Warby Parkers but yours look so thin and sleek.
ReplyDeleteLove these glasses on you Mat. Sort of retro but not too heavy/bulky. Really sleek.

Awesome styling! ♥
ReplyDeleteThose are great glasses! I love the style of them You've made me think that I should go further afield for my next frames. I've had the same pair for years now and opted against buying new frames after my last eye test and I've suddenly remembered a little independent glasses shop in Brum (near Faculty Coffee) which I must check out.
ReplyDeleteThese eyeglasses are so nice! I've been a faithful Warby Parker fan since they started back in 2010, but I'm diggin' how these look! Going to have to check 'em out.
ReplyDeleteg.
Warby Parker look lovely, there's no denying that. Don't you work for them, or would like to work for them? These feel very good quality, compared to some Ray-Ban frames I have. The lenses are so clear too.
ReplyDeleteToo kind, Kelly!
ReplyDeleteYeah I think this style has come about in most decades in certain forms (especially 20s-50s + 90s-00s). I'm really digging the style, but the quality is off the hook.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dillion. I imagine WP to be very high quality, at least that's how I perceive them on the ol' internet.
ReplyDeleteThanks you, glad to hear it!
ReplyDeleteI can't say it was something I thought about before, but when the fella pitched it as that our sight is one of he most important things we use each day it did make sense.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth a look before you get another pair, at least just for research (but obvs price is still the factor. But saying that a friend just bought some CK ones and with the lenses they cost £386! He prefers mine!).
ReplyDeleteI know this is about glasses, but that is a grade A shirt you have there!
ReplyDeleteFor specky person like us, can't say no to a pair of well crafted glasses :)
