Man, I don't know how these YouTubers manage it. I have a lot of respect for those who create videos every week, but I had fun giving it a go. Argos recently asked me to produce a short video about the beauty of cycling in the UK. It was a blessing that I happen to live by the seaside, and have access to endless miles of Lancashire coastline at my disposal. So off I went.
The North West is considered to be a pretty nice part of England – countryside, rolling hills, the Lake District, protected coastline and easy access to most places across the country. But it's not generally the place to be if you want to pursuit a career in a creative industry (however Liverpool + Manchester are around the corner). We decided to stay put. Hollie landed a sweet job at UCLan, and I decided to go freelance - so here we stay. Lancashire is our home.
I wanted to show what Blackpool's coastline has to offer for cyclists. It's already a very popular route for both long distance and recreational riders – which is evident from the amount of people you pass -– and ever since the coast went through a redevelopment a few years ago it's turned into one of my favourite place to cycle. I ride a single speed bike but I come across all sorts; mountain bikes, street racers, and even the odd tandem + unicycle. Remember this video we created on the prom a few months ago?
I created this video with my GoPro, from Argos. It was the first time I've used a mounted camera so I was a little nervous about the outcome. We were really impressed with the picture and sound quality, although I did have to do a few test-runs as I had the camera pointing too low, which meant my helmet was in shot. Gees! I actually can't wait to film some more videos with it, and push it to its full potential - because after all, this was my first attempt!

If you're thinking of going outdoors this Spring but don't have the right equipment, Argos sells a wide range bicycles including mountain bikes, which you can find here.
What do you think of the video and any ideas what I should film next? Have you had any experience with a GoPro camera? Video edited by Nathan Walton.

Thanks Ged! It lost a bit of quality in the process of making, hence the blurs but it's all good. It's the basic model, GoPro Hero, was about £99.

ReplyDeleteYes Hol, do it! Are they expensive over there? The quality of it is ace but sadly I lost a bit when transferring.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the video, you made Blackpool look very interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe video is outstanding!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was pretty awesome, it'd be a really cool way to map the UK, i.e. get other Go Pro users to make similar films from different locations.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really nice idea, and you'd see the dramatic changes depending on location. Thanks for the comment and visiting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy!
ReplyDeleteGlad you checked it out Daisy, thanks for the feedback.
