We like beer at Buckets & Spades, we know you know this. We'd probably review a lot more, if we had the time. We're particularly keen on the design of beer brands and labels (check out Mat's book); but, as always, flavour comes first. We were sent over some beers by Badger Ales to try over New Year, so here's our verdict.
Leaping Legend and Firkin Fox (where do they get these names?) score well on both counts. Both I'd describe as session beers, with Leaping Legend the more fruity and Firkin Fox the more hoppy. Easy to drink and refreshing, but Leaping Legend wins for me.
I'm starting to enjoy a more citrus flavour to my beer, so both of these beers were a winner for me. I just need to work my way through the rest of the Badger Ales. I know Mat has tried a few more of their beers; Golden Glory, Tangle Foot + Blandford Flyer. They're a Northern staple clearly!
Has anyone else tried a beer from Badger? If you have any beer labels you particularly love, don't forget to share them with us! Nik

ReplyDeleteDo you get Badger in the US? You snowed in Philly?
ReplyDeleteI have drank Badger before! I think I tried honey one, forgot the name. Really keen to try more of this brand.
ReplyDeleteLast Friday I went to The Beer Shop in Nunhead/Peckham and tried a lot of new, yummy beers. Now I wish I wrote the names down!!

Mark and my brother are both massive fans of Badger ales, they do have the best names!

I'd definitely agree with Leaping Legend being the better of the two! I may have to email them again to see if we can find out about the names.
ReplyDeleteRobert.
Great minds and all that Robert...or rather great tastebuds... ;-) Yeah. Odd names, but catchy and nicely designed bottles. I'm a fan!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of folks out there who seem to be Maria. Funny, because I used to drink it a few years ago and thought it was relatively unheard of. Clearly not the case!
ReplyDeleteI do the same all the time. That's why Untappd is a great app. Records what you've drunk so you don't have to remember...which can be a challenge after a couple ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaha yes. Will check out Untappd, thanks!
ReplyDeleteIll have to try this- Im a bit beer fan and Ive never tried it!
ReplyDeleteCoffee Beans and Bobby Pins
I'm surpised I still use it, but I like the way you can record what you've had, anywhere in the world.
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever heard of these before but would love to try them.

They sell them in lots of places in the UK, maybe you will find them in Berlin but not 100% sure.
ReplyDeleteRuby Rustler and Leaping Legend all the way, both seasonal ales with loads of flavour. Check out all Hall & Woodhouse pubs and restaurants for the whole "Sett" or buy a Rifel Box and have 12 to choose from !
