We welcome a new member to the Buckets + Spades team, greetings to Nik and his first post - Today he's discussing the art of finding the right gym kit.
Two or three times a week I run, and as I find the red button on a treadmill far too tempting to press, I run outside. This calls for proper running shoes that fit my wide (read ‘fat’) feet properly. Asics fit perfectly, although I’ve just discovered that Nike offer a wide option on all of their running shoes too, so I may be switching next time. This winter though, being wet and miserable, I’ve retreated indoors to the gym and started to visit a little more often to concentrate on (light) weights and some rowing.
Trips to the gym don’t require the same
kit as running outdoors - ClimaCool, Heattech, and the like aren’t essential, so
I tend to invest in some low-cost, great value stuff like the adidas Trefoil Addity Tee and Nike Foundation Fleece Track Pants. Trainers,
as well, need to be comfortable and hard-wearing, rather than light-weight and
supportive: a pair of Reebok or New Balance Classics do the job.
I do have one indulgence though, a loopback zip hoody from Sunspel. Not something
I want drenched in sweat, but nice to throw over my shoulders after a session.
And of course, a trip to the gym isn’t complete without the essential
timepiece: a classic Casio.
I’m sure some people disagree with
spending any money on clothes for the gym. A friend of mine has worn the same
running t-shirt for the past five years and, until recently, my top of choice
was a ‘borrowed’
jumper from the Manchester City catering department.
Nice first post Nik, I love Sunspel and those Flyknits are a thing a beauty
ReplyDeleteI love Nike sportsgear! I use their running shoes and they are the most comfortable thing in the world - both for workouts and daily errands!

Thanks Nik, I really dig those shoes!
ReplyDeleteNice one, great post Nik
ReplyDeletei ran in asics for the longest time (since high school track!) but then switched over to new balance. a comfortable tee is always so important when working out. and when going to trips to the gym, a handy dandy durable water bottle for sure. i don't know what i would do without it!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to running but I've been loving my Nike's! They're really comfy :) Great first post!
ReplyDeleteit seems like running is 'the thing' these days. I was a good runner in primary school, but I tried to go jogging a couple of years ago and thought I was actually going to die.
ReplyDeleteLove those shoes and Nike's in general. But I also dig the under armour's. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHello Nik! These shoes are very cool! I workout at home so I don't pay much attention to what I wear but I used to be an athlete (water polo) and Nike was among my favorite brands!
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who liked the posted! Chuffed to be getting such great feedback and some good suggestions too.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, those Nikes... I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteI went on a bit of a trainer splurge a few weeks back, starting to run outdoors too as I too find the red button too tempting and getting some fresh air is always nice. My gym gear has to involve, good running tights and running shoes and a hoodie.
ReplyDeleteI desperately need new running shoes. Also, I could never post what I wear to the gym (when I actually go... ha ha ha). It screams "frumpy house wife".
ReplyDeleteHave to head to work but I will be back tonight to finish catching up. :)
Sunspel makes the best hoodie - hands down.

So good!
