The Margaret Howell store on Wigmore Street has been on my "things to-do in London" list for a while. Tucked away just off Oxford Circus, you'll find Wigmore Street, a street which I previous knew hardly anything about but it turns out has loads going on.
En route I stopped off at Workshop Coffee Co., to meet up with an old friend of mine, Suzy. She proceeded to tell me she actually works for Margaret Howell, so two Flat Whites later we headed a few doors down to the store. With its high ceilings and spacious floor, the store doubles up as exhibition / show space. The evening before I visited was the launch of the latest Ercol furniture collection, which can be seen in the images about. In the store you will find both mens and womenswear, accessories, furniture, homeware goods and magazines/books.
I briefly looked at the clothing but it's quite frustrating to check out things your can't afford, I found it easier to browse from afar. I really appreciate their approach to design and feel the brand should be celebrated in a similar way to how Paul Smith is. In terms of design, vision and global reach, the brand Margaret Howell has built is something to be admired and the relaxed pace and minimal approach of the store is a far cry away from the chaos, otherwise known as Oxford Street.
You can find Margaret Howell at 34 Wigmore Street, London, W1U 2RS

I love Ercol furniture and I have been lucky enough to inherit some from various relatives- I need that turquoise bench chair!

ReplyDelete900th post ay? pat yourself on the back there! That's insane! Keep on it!
ReplyDeleteStroke of luck that Suzy worked there, bit of fate right there. I've had a nose of their website and thought the layout is spot on, nice and accessible. Fell for one of their items, a jacket which is photographed with a few pencils in the pocket - brilliant!
It's always a bit deflating when you see something of such good quality however you can't afford it at the moment. Just keep your fingers crossed for a sale, that's what I do!
Cheers for your comment too! Yeah they were a bit of treat seeing as my other loafers fell apart after a few good years.
Looks like such an awesome shop, would easily wear the tshirt in the first pic. and congrats on your 900th post!

ReplyDeleteI hadn't realised Margaret Howell did homewares as well. It is pretty depressing when browsing nice things you can't afford! Also congrats on thye 900th post :)
ReplyDeleteI may have just had a mess up with comments! However, I'm so pleased to see this post because I was checking checking out the website about 15 mins ago. I really want to visit one of the shops as soon as I can.
ReplyDeletehow awesome is it to meet a friend and realize that she works at a place you've been meaning to go. they have really beautiful pieces. in love with their chairs. and woot! congrats on your 900th post!
ReplyDeleteI like Margaret Howell's clothes but I never knew the brand made home and lifestyle products too!
ReplyDeleteMargaret Howell: Beautiful shops and aesthetic to her collection. However the utilitarian style seems somewhat disingenuous when you peek at the price tag. Seven hundred quid for a tweed jacket? I could get one tailored for that.
ReplyDeleteHarsh price tags for sure, you can't deny that mate.
DeleteHappy 900th post! I'll take that tea pot, please!
