Krups Coffee Part 1 - Bean To Cup

Sitting around in coffee shops catching up with friends, writing blog posts or trying your best to look busy is one of life's little pleasures. It's a good job they don't charge by the hour because it would be a seriously expensive way to spend you time. With the wet and windy weather well and truly here it's becoming increasingly hard to tare myself away from my (semi warm) front room.

My past experience with coffee machines is quite minimal, it's something I've always fancied getting into but if you mix the sheer amount of models on the market with my indecisive nature then you end up at square one.

Krups Coffee Machine

As part of a new partnership between Krups and Buckets & Spades, the team have kitted me out with all the tools I need to become a coffee connoisseur! Coffee machine, check. Beans check! We're well on our way. From the off I was impressed with the size of he machine, before it arrived it was thinking, "gees where the heck am I going to put this", but it was much more compact that I was expecting. It fits snugly into our kitchen, with its black and chrome finish, taking up minimal space. It's a pretty nifty looking thing.

How It Works

The Krups EA8258 is a Bean-to-Cup machine, meaning it uses coffee beans rather than grounds. I've only had experience with instant coffee in the past so I was quite excited to see the results. The process of making coffee is pretty straight forward, follow the instructions on the screen (and manual for the first couple of goes just to be sure) and out comes a nice creamy coffee. You can set how coarse you want to coffee grinding, depending on the type of bean and as strong as you like.

Is It Any Good?

In a word, yes! For the first week or so I must admit I didn't know what I was doing and I did have to ring for technical help as I thought I'd broke the thing. It turned out I hadn't but I'd created an obstruction near one of the spouts. Doh. After that though it's been coffees all around. One thing that did concern me was the frequency in which you are instructed to change the filter, but I've been assured by several people that this is totally normal was coffee machines. Once every month/six weeks seems to be the norm.

There only thing it's missing is the ability to heat milk for you, it uses and external pipe so heat milk in a cup rather than in the actual machine. The best part of my experience up to now has been experimenting with different varieties of coffee beans, but both about that in part two!

As they money saving "experts" would say, brew your own coffee instead of buying one each day!

I bet it looks well smart in your kitchen!

I love the smell of coffee but the taste just does not agree with me, gives me massive head aches! I'm really boring when I go out for a drink as I'll just have a good ole fashioned builders tea! Coffee machines do look complicated, when I'm in costa for instance I take my hat (invisible of course) off to the staff as they can whip up these fancy drinks in no time!

In relation to your comment too I think I just painfully overthink things and worry too much, the open day was fantastic but letting go of the dosh hurts a tad as I've been saving for absolutely ages, but I just hope this gamble pays off and definitely if you're in the area we'll have a chin wag!

  8. yum, I like coffee but I don't drink them lots, just once in the while if I am in mood. coffee from the coffee machine definitely tastes a lot better.

ta for the comment, i try to arrange the gathering every three months or maybe less. everybody else in the group has families so it was often difficult to make sure everybody are free at the same time!

  9. I feel like I have outstayed my welcome in many a cafe - though people dont really seem to mind! and as for dublin, I dont know when I might get a chance to go back, but I am hoping to go overseas next year some time - that is as far as my planning goes so far, though I'm torn between America and returning to Europe, I made a fair few american and canadian friends...
