Last week I went for a nose around Urban Outfitters in Manchester to check out their latest offerings for this coming Spring/Summer (will it ever come, it sure doesn't feel like it. Snowing again) season. As always UO let me have free reign of shop to look around the new brands, take photos, try a ton of stuff on and ask too many questions. Here's some things that caught my eye;
Along with Farah and Shore Leave, Carharrt was one of the most dominant brands across the menswear levels. Last season I recall them having one table but now it's grown to a couple of tables, a rail as well as being interspersed across key areas of the store. Camo still dominates here, mixed in with florals, classic work and streetwear and the usual solid basics.
Suit has made a comeback for S/S, they're generally known for their outerwear but I was more interested in their other clothing. Loads of hula prints, polka dots and florals in muted colours. It's hard to shop for shorts when it's still so cold outside but I'm off on holiday in June so it's nice to plan ahead.
Fred Perry was another dominant brand, which gets carried over from season to season. This time round they've bought more of the tailored stuff as less of the sports. You can't go wrong really, their shirting looked spot on, with paisleys and fading polka dots standing out for me. They also had a shirt with a pique polo shirt collar but the jury is still out on that one.
Lacoste Live was another newcomer, they're hadn't been a big hit of it yet but it was hard to miss the Hawaiian shirts and multicoloured knitwear. More to follow over the next few weeks.
UO regulars such as Shore Leave, Worland, Cheap Monday, Farah, Penfield and Levi's can be found doing their thing along side a few new brands in Nike Clothing, Nudie Jeans Co and Blood Brother. It's really good to hear they have taken on lots online exclusives too. Garbstore, Common People, Vanishing Elephant, Rascals and Sandqvist are all now available.
Each time I visit the store they seems to be adding to their footwear section, this time they've thrown in loads more styles from Nike, New Balance and Grenson making an appearance. I was very taken by these navy and cream Nike Free Powerlines.
And that's your lot for this time. As I said I had some time to try some stuff on, plenty of really nice stuff in fact. It seems Shore Leave have improved some of their fits and I was also very impressed with the Farah Vintage range, which included some UO exclusive pieces. I was lucky enough to be offered a couple of pieces too, I chose a pair of Nudie Thinn Finn jeans and a navy Farah Vintage work jacket.
I'll be sure to pop by over the next few months to check out some of new brands coming through for the rest of the season. Enjoy your weekend guys, hopefully you're not snowed in like many of us are!
I've definitely come to like UO a lot more in London than in the States.
ReplyDeleteI love the collection you're showing of UO, it doesn't feel like summerish cloth to me; but in fact thats better because i prefer 100 times the autumn vibe when it comes to fashion.
ReplyDeleteWhat about those little soldiers? Do they sell them? Totally random.
And as far as you asked on my post, i have considered a lot of times moving out of here, but never had the money and the balls to do it. Now i happen to have the money so i'm actually more motivated. But i wanna live there, not just go for a ride. So Europe here i come!!
PS: I'm actually Sweedish (the ironies of life!)
I love that paisley Fred Perry shirt! Am currently daydreaming about treating myself to one of their parkas.
ReplyDeleteI love the new men collection !:)
ReplyDeleteCome and see me and maybe we can follow each other ?:)

I think UO would be my 'If I could only shop in one place for the rest of my life...' choice
ReplyDeleteThere's so much variety in the new collection, I'm with you on the polka dot shirts!! Must be exciting planning stuff for hols, at least you know you'll get some sunshine!!
ReplyDeleteI always like the mens section of UO more than the womens, the prints on the shirts are lush! ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad
ReplyDeleteEvery time I go into that store all I want to do is buy everything on the rack. I was in there recently and I walked out with two things. And I'm glad I only did because the camo jeans/pants are my favorite but didn't feel like I need them at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWish they had urban outfitters in australia :( it sometimes nicer to see things in person and try things on. Great post!

Love that Farah shirt. I bought one of their 1942 CPO overshirts and the quality is fantastic.
ReplyDeletethose blue new balances seem right up your alley! (or do they say 'street' in the UK? my friend and i argued about this the other day)
ReplyDeleteOoh, show us what you got! Sounds like a good little trip, next time you're in Manchester give me a shout Buckets!
ReplyDeleteLove Tweet xx
I love Urban Outfitters! But I just wish they'd be more affordable. Liking some patterned shirts you took photos of x
ReplyDelete"It's hard to shop for shorts when it's still so cold outside" - exact opposite problem here in Aus! So hard to starting shopping for autumn/winter clothes when it's still so damn hot. Swap seasons?
ReplyDeletePersonally not to big on the products UO carries. I tend to see more misses than hits. But whenever they have something I find myself leaning towards it's usually spot on. Always seem to have a great selection of crew neck sweaters which I'm a big fan of. Really surprised to see them carrying Lacoste Live. I wonder if it will grab on or not. UO carrying is perfect for Lacoste Live as UO is right up their target audience alley way.
ReplyDeleteGREAT POST :) and I like your blog. I will also show my boyfriend your page he will LIKE haha:)
ReplyDeleteIf you want some Swedish decor inspiration check out my blog:)
