I took this shot in the Northern Quarter, Manchester a couple of weeks back. It's a street a walk down Thomas Street almost every week as a work around the corner, I'm usually in a mega rush so I don't tend to look around all that much. Me and Hollie (Did you see she won the Barcely's New Business Award at Graduate Fashion Week?!) travel down to Manchester for the day out maybe about once a month and we're always got our eyes peeled.
This terrace is above a take away shop and squished between restaurants, pubs, shops and solicitors. What I liked about it is the amount of different textures and materials all going on in one tiny place, who knows how it's got like that but I hope they don't go fixing it.
Have a great weekend guys!
i guess this is what you call unconventional beauty. it's nice you have an eye for that.

Love the mix of textures as well. My favorite things are the ones that most people over look. As much as I like beautiful new perfect things... there is something more charming about an item/wall/building/meal when it has a bit of a story. Not knowing the story is also what can something so special. Love this shot.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Hollie! xx
I love this kind of stuff. I especially like the exposed brick.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if I love this photo or hate it! I can totally see what you like about all the textures in the photo being so appealing, but at the same time I hate to see things so run down.
ReplyDeleteps major congrats to Hollie!
pps my boyfriend is doing work experience at a primary school because he starts teacher training in September!
i always love taking pics of places like that...something beautiful about it :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Holly!
ReplyDeleteI like this picture. It's in disrepair but still beautiful. Oh and well done, Hollie!
ReplyDeleteI agree, what a precious lil' hole in the wall this is x these are the kind of places that should be left preserved.
ReplyDeleteFinding beauty where people usually doesn't see it..thats a gift you have my friend!! Nice shot! I've always loved the exposed brick textures.
ReplyDeletewell done to hollie
ReplyDeletei love it, especially the exposed brick wall. you indeed have a good eye for detail
xo
There's a boarded up house on the other side of the railway station near where I live that I've been meaning to go out and photograph. Like this it's surrounded by other quite busy and preened premises, but everyone seems to look right past it like it wasn't even there. The Grimmauld Place of Streatham or something (...urgh, Harry Potter reference, I apologize).
ReplyDeleteHa! You know I thought that but hoped no one would really notice it... the paint works in its own way, I'm not a weirdo ha!
ReplyDeleteIt is stranly appealing to the eye, you're right with all the different textures and goings on, it does stand out but I really like that brick work for some reason! Also best of luck with your shop, it looks great. My dad is going through a phase of collecting bottles, he has some cola bottles in the kitchen, and I noticed a bottle book on the side. Will try and get the name, looks pretty interesting!
A great example for what makes a city landscape interesting.
ReplyDeleteBIG CONGRATULATIONS to Hollie. Amazing!
I LOVE seeing old buildings like this, though when they have really fallen into disrepair it does make me sad. There used to be an old burnt out shop in the suburbs of Birmingham I used to travel through every weekend to see the boyf, and every time I went past it on the bus I would notice it. 2 years later, I ended up basing my A level art finals on it, all those textures, just lovely! ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad
ReplyDeleteIt's indeed amazing, I love the different materials and their colours together. I love it when walls start doing that, exposing the bricks.
ReplyDeleteFirstly congratulations to Hollie. That is brilliant news, well done. It is amazing what you see when you look up isn't it. Thank you for showing us the beauty in this, you are right the textures are wonderful. Also thank you for your lovely comment. They put a lot more images up on Tuesday which is why I only posted about it yesterday. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on her award & what a charming exterior. I like the peeling away to reveal brick beneath. Like fabric. Or skin.
ReplyDeleteYou've opened an etsy shop!?! Where have I been...
Somehow this building reminds me of much of Glasgow...
ReplyDeleteThe different textures make this a fantastic photograph. Though I can't help thinking it will be most dangerous inside.
