Love Fades is an on-going project by American denim specialists Imogene + Willie and photographer chum Joshua Black Wilkins. Their jeans are built to last, "wear-’em-in-while-you’re-wearing-’em-out" as they so nicely put it. To celebrate every fade, wrinkle, dirty mark and rip Wilkins has been photographing their friends, family and customers outside their stores in Nashville, Tennessee. The documenting process ranges from brand new, a few months and all the way up to 2 years, where each pair really comes into their own.
They have build a whole archive of these shots, with around 150 to date; as well as being eye-candy for any denim fan the actual shots together make great viewing. Each denim shot is accompanied by a portrait of the wearer, together they make a very personal series with each set having its own story to tell.
I've been a bit mad on this project for a while now and eager to share it. Carrie & Matt the pair behind Imogene + Willie have had a really inspiring and humbling experience in setting up an independent company and doing something they truly love. You can watch their story here,
I hope you guys can be inspired by Imogene + Willie as much as I have.

What a neat project, not to mention seriously good looking bunch of friends, family and customers. :3
ReplyDeleteThe video is shot perfectly, the music compliments the whole thing so well too. The story is quite touching, knowing each other for so long sort of thing, it was meant to be! Plus the passion they both have for their product and business.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me really want to get started with projects for the future!
this is a great idea. love to see the faces with their jeans. and I wanna let you know that I'm having a Summer Fun Giveaway : ) Hopefully you enter!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and a very interesting project! I will watch their story too, thank you for the link!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet idea. And such lovely portraits. I love portraiture. And the way that jeans can look so anonymous and simultaneously distinctive. Beautiful. Happy bank holiday. X
ReplyDeletethis is a very cool campaign. denim indeed becomes better and develops character as it gets worn out.

Am i the only so bored enough to just cover half the screen and play.. how it would look the owner of these pair of legs???
ReplyDeleteHhahah amazingly a lot of them looked such as i pictured them!
What a fascinating concept: you do find the best things, Mat Buckets! I will certainly check them out. I'm always in awe of couples who have a vision and take the risks and do the work to make it happen.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were just toying with the idea today, in fact, of taking off on a road trip, and doing a blog and maybe a book about it. He wants to focus on shooting and fishing, and I'd do the rest. We'd have to rename my blog, of course: we're thinking Hit the Road, Jack.
Speak of the devil: said husband just asked what I"m doing. Enough chit chat, better run but thanks for stopping by!
p.s. I also love the way they paired the portraits in black and white with the jeans shots in colour. Such a simple, focused idea, brilliantly executed. Thanks for putting this together.
ReplyDeleteGreat portraiture! Sweet, honest, simple concept.
ReplyDeleteAll we guys need are some good jeans right? Great blog.
