Can you believe these aren't actually real origami animals? Austrainlian based graphic designer Jeremy Kool creates these pretty incredible digital illustrations of 3-D origami animals. You could easily be mistaken in to believing that he's been extremely handy with the paper folding art and made them up for real but he creates these realistic interpretations on his computer. Pretty cool eh. Kool (what a name) is currently selling these and the rest of this series as prints at The Paper Fox Shop.
It takes quite a skill to create something so realistic, but can't help but feel that I'd prefer to see them as real 3-D structures. I'm unsure if a structure so technical could be created using the origami technique. Does anyone know and has anyone seen anyone make something like this for real?

I'm just amazed by this. I love the fox.
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVE these. I can't believe they're not real 3D (and yes I too wish they were). I remember my coolest aunt and uncle, I mean, the most stylish, cool couple in every way - scientists, she looked like a young Julie Christie, they lived in London in the Sixties, lived all over the world, rode around in a sports car - gave my sister and I, among other things, origami kits when we were really young. And we made stuff!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you left a comment when you did - thank you, and shame on me for not commenting more (I've been offline for basically all of 2012 so far) but I was thinking of you that day: I met someone, a brother of a friend, about an idea.. I should put you two in touch. Or just go to his blog, it's on my roll: 'Emma's Brother.' It was actually Emma who introduced us.
this is KOOL work! to have it in actual folded paper would be totally amazing. i especially like the fox and the buffalo.

these are actually incredible!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing. I love digital media. Ahh I wish you could have had your few days in London with your GF during LFW it would have been to meet you both. Have fun when you are here. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteIt´s incredible what you can acomplish with digital art...i'm amazed!!!!! Don't know that much of origami but i guess this ones would be way too complicated to be done with the real technique if possible.

I'm confused/impressed! I love the warthog but I would want him in 3D rather than a print...
ReplyDeletewow how amazing is this
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed intriguing and I too would love to see them as real 3-D!! I really like the fox and the owl. But every single one of them is brilliantly done.
ReplyDeleteThese are cool. I've seen some crazy actual origami stuff before, but will have to find the links in my bookmarks. On the digital note, the Onitsuka ad is still one of my favs (plus based on actual origami designs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fWhYOt57i8
ReplyDeleteWow! Would love to see if these could work in real life too.
ReplyDeleteThis is insanely amazing, you must have to be so skilled; I adore the fox and the frog, so cool <3

wow, how amazing .. always adore the art of origami, but this takes it to a whole other level! love the Owl! x
ReplyDeleteI actually thought they were paper, until I read they were designed using a computer. They're seriously cool either way, but I agree - I believe they can be made with paper and it would somewhat make them more interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteMy friend creates work using paper, creating food based objects but making them look as realistic as possible. He made a light switch too and it caught me off guard one of the days haha, also a carrier bag!
I had no luck in the chazza (nice word!) shops sadly. I did however witness the wonderful Ken Barlow 'soul of the street' autobiography though! :P
Also how is driving going? I still have to do my Theory, I have been slacking! I just have so much degree show stuff to do it's hard to fit it all in. I'm reading American Psycho too before bed but really should be swapping that for the Theory book! I've just finished a book on North Korea. It's incredible what is happening over there, it's so secretive. If you're interested in anything like that check out 'Nothing to Envy' - ace book! Woah this was long!
These are really cool! But I agree with you, would kinda be more impressed to see them in 3D. Can you imagine what the template and instructions would look like? ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad
