Northern News Alert! Barbers and Gent's Grooming specialists Murdock London are venturing up to the north of England. Murdock's products were exclusively sold from their super cool stores (and some concessions) dotted around London but now the stylish chaps of the north can get a look in. Their kit is being sold through John Lewis stores in Liverpool, Cheadle (Greater Manchester), Newcastle and not strictly the north but Nottingham as well.
As I'm based up north (Blackpool to be exact) they sent me a couple of their most popular products to test drive. The Avalon British cologne and candle to be more precise. I have the say the cologne is like no other aftershave I've really ever used, it's fresh, citrusy and smells like you've just been given a wet shave from a guy in a white vest and braces. I've worn it tones already and had quite a few compliments.
As with anything for me the packaging and presentation matters a great deal. It's simple stuff really, nice traditionally shaped bottle and charming label. Lets just say the guys on the Young Apprentice could learn a lot from this!
Competition -
As for the candle I'm going to let one of you guys have it. I'm not one for candles but it smells just as good as the cologne (and me). You can find out a few more deets about it here but just of the top of my head, "Notes of Sicilian bergamot, Calabrian lemons and hand picked lavender from the fields of Haute Provence, whisk you away to cocktail hour on the Grand Tour, with a fresh modern twist"....comes to mind!
I reckon this would be a pretty wicked gift for any chaps but for women too, as it's not overly manly. Or you can just have it for yourself? So if you fancy a free Christmas gift or a treat for yourself just comment on this post saying that you want it. That's it, no nonsense, just a comment.
I'll keep the competition open for a week and will pick the winner at random on the day. This one is only open to people in the UK though, sorry. I'm going to try do a couple of competitions in the run up to Christmas so you guys will have some good stuff to give to your loved ones or keep for yourselves! So check back for more soon, I'll be keeping them unisex too. Best of luck.
Yes please, I would love the candle, what a splendidly simplistic idea.
ReplyDeleteHave to say Im a big fan of your blog, im from not far away in Lancaster, but living in Manchester so a great deal of your northern 'quips' ring true with me!
Kind regards,
Dan.
Bergamot is one of my favourite 'ingredients' (are they called ingredients in perfume?) so I'd love to win!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Bergamot is one of my favourite 'ingredients' (are they called ingredients when used in fragrance?), so I'd love to win, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI would love a candle. If you're ever in London I would recommend a wet shave at Murdocks. Leaves you feeling like a smooth faced gentleman.

I love a good heritage product and what a great design. I think I spotted the brand at Liberty London - but maybe I'm mistaken.
ReplyDeleteOh, me, me! I never win any competitions so I'll have my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI love the word cologne! And this one sounds perfect, in fact I'd quite like to try it for myself. I'll have to look out for the London stores and maybe get some gifts for my many brothers. Any luck on the work boots search?

I've never bought or owned a candle before so this would be a nice new thing to experience
ReplyDeleteSicilian bergamot, Calabrian lemons and lavender.. sounds like something I'd really like, too. I'm going to search and sniff in London, but I'd like to enter the competition, too. If for no other reason than I never win anything, but a girl can live in hope.
ReplyDeleteI love the branding: very clean, very much my taste. That's the kind of thing I'd love to have on our (too cluttered for my husband's taste) glass & walnut 50's style not genuine Noguchi but made by a UK craftsman coffee table. I'd never burn it cause I wouldn't want to use it up.
Thank you for your wonderful comment, Mat. I really appreciate the support. And re: work.. early days, early seeds, but I really hope I might have an idea. I'm not saying this a bribe to win, mind you! Random means random, I respect that.
too bad i'm not eligible to win. i like the design of the products though.
ReplyDeleteone more reason to live in th uk.. be able to participate on this threads hahahaah.. every excuse is good right?

You watch the young apprentice also I gather then? I can't get enough of it. It makes me want to think of some money making scheme! I didn't like their designs for the deodorant bottles though. The black and pink looked a bit tacky and the mens one was okay but not very exciting.
ReplyDeleteOhhh count me in on that candle please! It's a nice simple design, lovely. My brother is a big softy and loves a nice candle. He bought some Yankee candles (I think that's the brand! oops if not!) recently and they're around £15-20 so I obviously think he's a madman!
I've also had an idea to make him some cufflinks too. This website is brilliant for inspiration. I tell you, if I was a chap I'd be in heaven! I even saw some lego cufflinks! One word - awesome!

What a cool concept! I would definitely love the candle to give to my boyfriend (or maybe keep for me!)
ReplyDeleteOoh, my boyfriend just wears Lynx, haha. I'm not sure how he'd feel about cologne but I sure like them!

Oooh nice design, wouldn't mind winning.
ReplyDeleteComment comment comment! Just started going out with someone and thinking of a Christmas present is a MARE so this would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I missed this post, but I'm pretty much in love with anything that says "made in england" on it.
ReplyDeleteOhh the simple packaging is perfection, I like the look of this a lot. Nicely presented too, v cool paint colour. Fantastic giveaway, I would love to enter.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Mal in Manchester is a lot more laid back now that have changed it to Smoak. More male orientated, was quite female biased before I thought.
