Bright colours, check. Surreal-ness, check, Typography, check. Humour, check. This has to be a winning formula right? All these things make my life very enjoyable and for an artist to use them is totally up my street. London based artist James Joyce takes all these elements, jumbles them up and it comes looking like a whole ball of crazy.
This style of illustration would look pretty brilliant in my room I must say, it sure cheered my rather snoozy Sunday up.
See all his work here, all images via there too
when i saw the title of this post i thought it was in reference to the irish writer! regardless, i love these. i'm a massive fan of that pen knife.
ReplyDeletethis is great, love his works! It's funny, I'd seen that last one before but never knew who made it so thanks for that :)
ReplyDeletelovely work.
ReplyDeleteThose are some interesting images. A little too bright and weird for me, but interesting nonetheless.

ReplyDeleteThough I'm not so much the colourful type there are some wicked designs here... Would love to see him in a gallery.
ReplyDeletei wish i can understand this creative language you share with those artists. all i can do is to admire the beauty of their work. i guess that's enough. :)

ReplyDeleteThese are fun. Love his sense of humour. Xxxx
ReplyDeletejames joyce? as in ulysses? huh, what a coinkydink! i like his work, though :) xx
ReplyDeleteIs that a balloon cracking the floor? brilliant! This kind of art really interests me, playing with scale, weight and colour to create work that is wonderfully bizzare! At our exhibtion show there was an student who scaled up sweets like lollipops and candy necklaces and standing next to them really just felt strange - especially has they were so life like!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Too bad his names is like James Joyce's :P It's a tad confusin, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteThat one dollar clown is dope.
ReplyDeleteThat last one is pretty darn fly x
ReplyDeletebrilliantly, and distractingly colorful work. really catches my eye!
ReplyDeletegreat post!

Loved your stuff..Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous stuff. Some of it looks edible. Reminds me of Wonka's factory. There are comparisons to be drawn between this guy and Erwin Wurm. Their sculpture uses a very astute humour that can either be enjoyed as absurdity or looked into more deeply.. depending on your mood.
ReplyDeleteI must admit though, for a second when I read the title I totally thought you were talking about Joyce the writer. I scrolled down thinking, 'fucking hell, this is going to be.. interesting..' :P
This is exactly why I'm slowly learning illustrator! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThese are quite witty! At first, I thought you meant the writer Joyce! Didn't realize there was an artist probably named after him :-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome selection of images. Especially loving the first and last. xx
