Barbershop Photoshoot
Here's a few unedited pictures from a recently photo shoot at a barber shop, for a uni project. We took over 400 images on the day so it was a tough task picking out our favourites. The about ones are a few that I am really happy with. The theme of the shoot was. The aim behind the project was to promote a local business(in Preston, where I go to uni) and display 4 images at an exhibition in January.
Which is your favourite, if any? Any feedback is really welcome as it could help with my final research sketchbook.
Styling by myself(and 3 others in my group), photographs by Dave Schofield
In other news I was recently featured in an article, "Stylish Men on Twitter". The article is very complimentary and I have no idea why the chose me. Give it a read if you have a mo.

Fantastic Mat, great styling and photography - very authentic! x
ReplyDeleteUm wow, I love all of these! But, if I had to pick a favourite, I'd say the first one. There is just something about it.
ReplyDeleteMat, this is stunning! Honestly was not expecting this shoot to be so professional. Props to you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the mention! Up there with Stephen Fry - my life's ambition.
Fabulous, I LOVE the first shot, actually I love every shot :), ha ha ha, I'm sure you will get Brilliant result for this uni project, they look professionally done, LOVE it!!!

wooow. all of these look so good. my fave would be the first!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you study?
ReplyDeleteThe styling here is exquisite, definitely feeling a John Travolta in Grease vibe here. The best detail is probably the cigarette behind the blonde guy's ear in the second picture, but out of them all - the first photo is my favourite.
they're all great, but I particularly like the 2nd one!
ReplyDeletethe first shot is my favourite. really gorgeous photography. i also love the styling. the whole concept is just so retro cool. will definitely check out the article. congrats on that! xx
ReplyDeleteI like how casual and laid-back the last one is. And it somehow tells a story too.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the second shot, could imagine it as a double page spread.
ReplyDeleteI love these! I think the second is my favourite, it's like a really authentic moment in time, just captured on film. But they're all great, and evocative. Good work.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the second one. I much like subjects who do not seem to look like they are being photographed or filmed...
ReplyDeletethese are so genius I love them, the first one is my fave. Well done Matt ! x
ReplyDeleteVintage is so in at the moment and these photos are fantastic!! I love the first shot!!
ReplyDeletei really love the middle one! this place looks so old-fashioned and quaint, can't wait to see the final result (:
ReplyDeletegreat mens style, thanks for sharing!

SWEET AS. Been dying to see these!
ReplyDeleteLove this, what a stylish group of men! The last photo is my favorite :]
ReplyDeleteMat, this is great! Both the photoshoot and the feature! The article is indeed very complimentary, but well deserved! As for the shoot, I do like the first two a lot, the styling looks very good and I like how you found very realistic props (e.g. the newspaper). Also, maybe I'm biased as I like the concept a lot, but if these are the unedited photos, the edited ones must look awesome, because these do look great!

ReplyDeletethese are fantastic, i love the styling! i don't think i could pick a favourite (sorry not very helpful!) they're all great!

The photoshoot looks quite exciting. I like the styling and the background. It's difficult to pick one in particular. Perhaps the first one is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteIn general, when working on assignments, I try to agree with the client the number of pictures that they need to receive. If we settle on four, I shall try to arrange four to six different scenes and give myself a few options for each of these scenes. Typically, I don't take more than 24 pics for each pic that needs to be published. I try to be closer to 5-10. This makes selection at a later stage easier & there is still plenty to choose from, in case something has gone awry.
Congrats on being elected an elegant twitterer too! You surely deserve it.

This is so fun! I hope you will post more.
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult to chose, but I think the first is quite gripping.
Congrats on the mention! I read the little blurb; the description is quite darling.
I can't tell you how much I love this how envious I am of the course you're doing - which is what btw? I wish I'd had some sense when I was younger & choosing my direction in life. My fab is the 2nd. I like the fact that it captures those moments of waiting around in places like barbers, full of thought.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I really love these! I can definitely understand why you were picked as a stylish man, you've definitely got it! You are original and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteyou are indeed one of the most stylish men i follow on twitter!! xx
