DIY - Life In The Old Dog Yet

I've been mulling over my wardrobe over the past few months. As I have cut my spending habits and now only buying things that I think will either last the test of time or not just get bored off, I thought it would be an idea to try and revive some old stuff instead of getting rid.

Boring old chinos, a back of the cupboard jobby. So I needed to bring life back into the old dogs. I have separate painting clothes, which obviously get really messy with paint, but I always like the effect all the random paint splattering gives. I've also always had the images of Alexander McQueen's S/S 10 collection in the back of my mind, I knew I wanted to give it a bash.

A couple of blobs of acrylic paint is all I needed.

I'm like a kid when I comes to mess, still love it.

I first I thought I'd gone overboard with the paint but screw it, so I just added more.

The finished product, pretty simple really. I decided to stop at the thighs, incase I took it too far, as there's no turning back. I splashed a bid on the back pockets and lower leg too.

I haven't got a shot of me wearing them yet, as I haven't actually worn them but I will do soon. Has anyone else done any DIYs with paint before, what did it turn like? What do you think of my effort?

Keep those Ray-Ban Competition entries coming, you have until 9th July to enter if you already haven't.

  3. what a brilliant idea, i can't wait to see you in them! the idea also sightly reminds me of the dolce and gabbana painted tulle dresses a few years back...

i'd quite like to try this technique, bleach would also look pretty cool. do you know gem fatale's blog? a few weeks back she did a tutorial on bleaching clothes.

  7. Wow, they look just fantastic! I think I could do the same thing to one of my old skirts. That could also look pretty good :---D Maybe I just have to try ..

  9. I really like those! I think the danger with just white paint as you get in cheap high street designs is that it literally looks like a lame rip off of jeans actually worn to paint in. With multi colours it is far more obviously stylized, not merely a mimic, so it works better if that makes sense? Oh and it was tea, it was a limited edition Oolong I got at the Tea Palace!

  16. Great idea! What I like best is that you can always 'add a touch' if you feel like it.

  18. This is so great. One of my friends did this accidentally by wearing the same jeans to her art classes. Then she decided to wear them out, and got quite the compliments. Forgive me using the word, but it's pretty "badass."

  19. They look great. I also want to know what happens when you wash them! If you have to do it again I also think you should take the opportunity to do some actual painting while you're creating the jeans - a double creative/DIY session.
