Ahh nearly the weekend again, this week has flown by for me! The weekend pretty much starts with the England game tonight, I just hope they win. Anyway, Friday's Inspiration comes from Blackpool based Photographer, Yannick Dixon.
His work ranges from culture, nature to travel. Being based in Blackpool does have its advantages, it's a bit of a photographer's dream in some sense, just because it's so varied and colourful. Maybe not the classiest town about but certainly entertaining;
Aloha From Blackpool - I adore this photo, the grey side of Blackpool.
Championship Playoff Final 2010
The Living Statue
The Wave - This is a piece of art that was commissioned in Blackpool town centre.
Hong Kong Metro
Starlings Above #6 - Dixon's photos feel really atmospheric and shows Blackpool in a whole new light.
What do you think then? I think he captures scenes so well.
Has anyone else been to Blackpool? Not such a nice town with all the stag and hen do's every week, but if you look hard enough you will find a pretty wonderful place. There is actually lots to do in Blackpool but most people just think of endless boozing. Think again!
If you like what you see, check out Yannick Dixon's website for more. He is also an Associate Lecturer at UCLan uni. All images owned by Yannick Dixon
The first image of Blackpool is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see another, more arty, side to Blackpool. I've never been, I think we should rectify this!

i havent been to blackpool before, but it looks like a lovely place in these photos. my favourite is the first one, its kind of spooky juxtaposed with the colourful palm tree sign.
ReplyDeletei'll check his other stuff out too!
the last image is so cinematic.. or it just reminds me of a doomsday movie. but it's cool.
ReplyDeleteWow...these are the kind of pictures I hope to take one day.
ReplyDeleteAlso Hong Kong MTR!!! I miss that so.

ReplyDeleteBlackpool... The land of candy rock and B&B's - I love how the city doesn't pretend to be anything it is not! No pretense Just cheap and cheerful fun to be had and thats why we adore the city! + it helps that they do a mean chipy!
ReplyDeleteHope all is well and enjoy the weekend!

ReplyDeletei LOVE that metro shot. the man facing the other way with his hand son the pole...awesome.

That first photo is beautiful, but the metro photo makes me feel incredibly claustrophobic :P
ReplyDeleteThere's something refreshing about all his shots. Maybe it's because there's a lot of color and the lighting is always somewhat bright.
ReplyDeletesighing over that first image...hahhhh...
ReplyDeleteOkay, let's not talk about the football then... (I already upset my tennis group today by asking if anyone watched it. I bet they thought 'Bloody German' although they didn't have a good day yesterday either...) Aaaanyway - Wonderful, wonderful photography. Mr Yannick certainly has 'the eye'.
ReplyDeleteI love the grey side of Blackpool - the slightly grubby British seaside town is deep in my bones!
ReplyDeleteI would say Blackpool definitely has a reputation, perhaps one which isn't wholly justified! I've never been, when's the best time to visit (to avoid the crowds)? You should do a guide to Blackpool (the non-seedy side) lol!
ReplyDeleteI love these photographs, there's something quite minimalist about them, but the composition is so carefully thought out, fantastic.

P.S. Have you tried out the bacon & beans yet? :)
the second photo is incredible. not the kind of photography i usually look at, but it's good to see something different for a change. the closest i got to blackpool was leeds for leedsfest last year!

that last pic is just amazing! i've only been to blackpool once (twice actually, to see ricky gervais at the opera house), probably a little silly considering i can see the tower from where i am! i'll have to go back soon, i did really enjoy the crazy golf course near the pleasurebeach although i'm a scaredy cat though so i never go on rides :)
ReplyDeletehow are the charity/vintage shops in blackpool?
