Hello all. I've been a bit slow this week but onwards and upwards. Cast you minds back to a few weeks ago when I posted about my first completed painting, I had to change it half way through because I mess up. So this time I decided to do the same again I try to not mess up this time, sticking to the original plan.
The only differences are that is the colour combo and i ripped the masking tape in half on random sides to create a raw edge;
Quite similar to last time but the outcome is fairly different.
Close up of the raw edges.
What do you think, which do you prefer? I do like this one but I think I much prefer my first attempt, somehow I find the other one much more exciting. Feedback is welcome, be honest please!
Not loads of outfit posts at the mo, but I can tell you know I've been wearing a lot of mustard, beige, khaki, brown, grey and navy. Some shots soon to follow hopefully. In other news, I'm hoping to sort out the 2nd Buckets & Spades competition, I'll keep you posted.
Any enquiries about my work please contact bucketsandspadesblog@googlemail.com
Lovely Buckets, good job!

I think that both are very good (awsome). I like a lot that type of art I actually just bougth a little painting by a young artist that is of this kind of abstract funny modern thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I liked the first one, but with the ripped edges of the tape, I kinda prefer this one!
ReplyDeleteNicely done!

I love the raw edges! And I love the primary colors.
ReplyDeleteoh cool, I do like the other one :P Oh no before when I was on here your blog was not a beige colour it was a light leafy green ...my mates laptop is a bit F**ked me think's :P I won't tell her ...she might think I did it :( Anyway hope you are well and you need to take a picture of them both together ....you could do a group of three. That would be cool x

P.S.- Please make sure to follow me! ;)
i really like the raw edge, and the contrast the white creates with the colours. this one is maybe a bit more striking? though the first is great too, it has a really different mood.
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer the first one, though I like the way you've mixed up the stripes a little by using a 'raw' edge. Are you going to do a series?
ReplyDeleteYour comment about a map upon maps intrigued me, maybe this could be your next project?

I just saw these series of paintings you did, your technique is quite inspiring! I do like the organic feel of the first attempt, but the subtlety of the raw edges on this one is fresh, I think. The idea of taping-off polygons in paint is setting off DIY lightbulbs in my head...
ReplyDeleteI actually like this one far better. I just wish all the blocks had rough edges, it looks rather charming. Although if it's just raw canvas underneath putting some white paint down with maybe faint greys for texture could make it look a touch cooler? Either way, I still like it :)
ReplyDeleteCall me boring, but I like the new one better. I think the idea with the rough edges is great and the colours are beautiful and it just is a great picture! But I see what you mean - the first one has a bit more of an edge, not so balanced...
ReplyDeletewell i like the first one a little better...though..this one definately stands out more, a little more striking.
ReplyDeletegreat painting! I love it!

Mate - I have to say, your talent amazes! HA! I much prefer this one to the last! Liking the idea with the masking tape - noted! However, the icing on the paint (Yikes) is that the brush strokes are visible - Love!
ReplyDeleteDid I hear competition!!! Please tell!!!!

hello, mat! thank-you for your comments. yes, the rare clothes were better than i expected too, though they are very much out of my price range.
ReplyDeletealso, thank-you for your comment on jill's post, even though jill always gets a ton of comments i wasn't expecting such a response. argh, i totally understand what you mean about acne, i used a cream to get rid of it, and lets just say it bleached and completely ruined my skin.
your painting is lovely! i really do like the raw edges, it adds another element to the piece and stops it from being as comformed.
love, jazzabelle. xxx
i really love this, the straight edges on one side & the raw edges on the other look fantastic...i like the contrast of light & dark on this one too :) keep 'em coming, loving all these paintings!

While i love this, there is definately something more free about your first (and inspiring) attempt. The colour in between adds texture and to me gives an entirely different meaning to the painting, the idea that lines dont always have to be perfect and clear cut.. shit happens in between you know? This painting is something you should truly be proud of. Own it.
