I'm quite into viaducts right now. They are not something I have really ever seen from a distance before, I'm usually just sat on the train as we past over one. They have a certain charm, especially the older ones, would you agree?
They're great engineering feats. I've never seen one in person though. Hopefully someday!
ReplyDeleteAmazing post! Love the images. Viaducts are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree. Actually, #3 is so pretty, I thought it was from a Harry Potter movie. Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteamazing photos! I'm so jealous you get to live in that part of the world!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful pictures! My bf was watching some documentary about these not too long ago, i wish i could remember what it was :/
ReplyDeletei definitely agree, i love perspective shots & these are just perfect!
ReplyDeleteArchitectural brilliance.. Im sure the sip canal runs through a few of these beauties.

I definitely agree, when you get the train to London from Manchester, you go over a beautiful viaduct and the shadows on the hills below are beautiful.

they're incredibly impressive. the swiss one looks magical!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Have you seen the Millau viaduct? There is also a picture by Kertesz of an artist walking in front of the Meudon viaduct, that is quite famous.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, especially since you don't really see them around too often anymore. It makes me want to ride on a steam train! :)

Reminds me of Harry Potter, for some reason. I didn't know these were called viaducts -that's a bit of a sinister name...ha.
ReplyDeleteThat Swiss pic is stunning!

I actually have my background right now set as a shot of a viaduct. They are magical. They have a beauty that electric pylons or other necessities just could never match. I suppose it is the warmth of the brick and the allure of architecture. Reminds me of the relic of some great cathedral.
ReplyDeleteWhat great images, I love the one in the middle of no where with lights on it, something so magical about it
ReplyDeletelovely pics...viaducts always remind me of learning about the romans in history :)
ReplyDeleteyay i'd love the anchor necklace but i have nothing decent i could send to you in return! :(

As a child there was a book in school about a train and in the picture it was going over a viaduct. I use to try, and draw them after that in all my picture's
ReplyDeleteI think my mum though I was abit mad. I loved the way you could see underthem and there line and form. Rome's had the right idea and if we had carried on designing on that basis we would not have the tragic Dome !!!! I hate it :P
Viaducts are part of the movement into the modern world but still bringing the old with it. Great post and thank you for your comment hun. Hope you and your girly are well xxx
Sorry Roman's :P
ReplyDeletei definitely agree!in america, unfortunately, there's no structures that old, but i really liked seeing some of these when i was in spain.
ReplyDeleteI've been over both the Scottish ones. Fascinating architecture, no?
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, too! I remember seeing them when we first drove around the Herefordshire countryside (when I first met my husband & we'd visit his family from NY) and I was like what IS that!!?? They're enormous scales, for one thing, and look so ancient, so... mythic.
ReplyDeleteJust saw your comment re COS & needing a personal shopper in London. That is not a bad idea!! I happened to see your next post, Swap Shop. There's an idea in there for a blogger's Swap Shop concept but you literally shop for someone in another city: like an old fashioned pen pal, but with goods exchanged.
You might have stumbled on something there, Mat.
They do have a certain something =] very photogenic, especially in the afternoon sun when the stone glows.
ReplyDeleteFirst time on your blog by the way, and I like what I see!
