In the mean time(when it was all drying), I totally forgot about the original pencil drawing. I excitedly pealed away all the masking tape........to my totally annoyance the nice clean white lines I imagined were actually filled with dirty grey marks.
So I had to improvise;
I didn't have much choice, filled in the gaps with a load of blue paint.
Looks pretty cool up close to. What do you all thing? Not quite how I expected it to look and not really how I wanted it but it's ok I guess. I do quite like the mish-mash of colours.

Stop the Presses, I'm actually posting a picture of myself. The reason why I don't much is because I really don't think I'm photogenic and for me to find a picture of myself that I am happy with posting I would have to a million to get a good one. But I did manage it.
I'm warning you, this is the one and only time I'm going to try and look serious. I can't pull the cool, calm guy look off usually. My tastes are quite relaxed at the moment, I'd also wear this outfit with baggy chinos too, Hollie calls it my painter look.
Wearing - J+ Uniqlo khaki linen blazer, Gap stripey blue/white tshirt, Lee jeans, Uniqlo blue socks, Superga mushroom grey trainers.
I like it with the lines filled in with blue! It makes it more moody.
ReplyDeleteAnd wahey! A picture of you! I know what you mean, I find it so awkward trying to look 'cool' in front of the camera, so I just have to grin!
But you've pulled it off! I like the olive hues!

ReplyDeleteVery inspiring blog. Looks like you're a sharp dresser too. I love the brown brogue/orange socks shot in your footer.

You pulled off the calm, cool guy look perfectly! But I know what you mean, I feel unphotogenic too so I just don't take many photos now haha. I think the painting turned out nice! Do you paint a lot?
ReplyDeleteThe painting is just lovely! I would like to have it on my own wall. And I also really like that photo of you! You and your outfit looks absolutely great!
ReplyDeleteGood Job! Looking fab!

I like the mash of colors as well and the navy blue lines.
ReplyDeleteI also felt the same way about posting pictures of myself. It's strange at first, but it gets easier.
You saved it ...its now abit more Picasso I think. I think it will look great on the blue wall for sure. Oh why so worried, you look like a dj/ artist in that picture. I like the army style top, you still look smart for your dressed down look. Have a fab wekend Matt x
ReplyDeleteMATTTTTT! The painting is ace* Lovely colors and i like the gestural textured lines!!!
ReplyDeleteI like your portrait too. Understated cool.

I agree with the comments above - I like the blue. I can see what you were trying to do with white (though could you not have painted the areas white if they were a bit dirty?) but I do like how it's turned out, even if it's not meant to be like this exactly. I always think the best works of art are either spontaneous or change last minute anyway, it's far more exciting! :)

Let me just tell you congrats on finishing the painting! It might be just me, but I know how difficult it can be to finish something and then expose yourself through it by showing it to the world. Especially when you hit bumps along the way. Yet it turned out great! I find especially interesting the way you decide to put the lighter color on the bottom and go for darket on top. White might have made all the colors pop more, yet you added nice texture with the blue lines. I also like the contrast between the strictness of the straight lines and the irregular way in which you applied the color.
ReplyDeleteJust a personal thought, I'm rather liking the first images. Did you consider something regarding mixed media? The way the light hits that metal ladder makes it look like it's painted. And with the turquoise background it's just amazing!
With regards to your photo, it is indeed very laid back cool. The color of the Uniqlo socks is a nice touch of course. And so is the orange chair ;)
You are a great artist!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the beauty of modern art, you start with one thing and end with something totally unexpected? At least that's how it's for me, mainly because I just can't draw so I have to go along with what happens.
ReplyDeleteAaanyway, it's a great picture and I hope there are more to come, and btw you are totally photogenic!
yes uniqlo is such a fab shop!
ReplyDeletelove your finished painting!
Thankyou for the comment on my blog :)

ReplyDeleteLike the outfit, simple is gooood.
i love the painting. definitely agree with NJM it looks much moodier with the dark blue. and i kind of like that it's not how you expected it would turn out... the best things never are, right? i love the first shot of it in front of the teal wall. very cool indeed. yes, definitely a great success! also, great photo of you! i think your pulling off the cool calm guy look. i like the setting and your shoes! well done for taking the plunge - i totally agree, it's scary putting photos of yourself out there! xx
ReplyDelete9 down, 10 to go!

great paintings!
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting, the finished product and a picture of you, double whammy! I love your blazer - I'd wear it, myself (though it's probably not QUITE cold enough in Melbourne at the moment).
ReplyDeleteFor a second I thought that the blue background and ladder were part of the painting and I thought it was a really cool addition, but I still the love the painting on its own. Be interesting to see what it would have looked like with the white lines. Ah, plenty more opportunities. ;)

I think the blue lines look good. I imagine it's very different from what you'd envisaged with the masking-tape lines, but it turned out pretty cool in the end :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know the joy you talk about in being unphotogenic and actually finding a decent photo of yourself. For me, it's such a rare experience!
It looks fantastic! So colourful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers too ;)
